IAPMO IBT is one of many laboratories listed and accredited by IAPMO R&T. One of the services provided by IAPMO IBT is conducting testing for product listing and listing compliance to be submitted to IAPMO R&T or IAPMO UES or any other Certification Agency. 

Yes. We are able to perform testing per Canadian Standards for listing by IAPMO R&T or IAPMO UES to Canadian standards.

Testing time ranges from a few days to a few months, depending on the product and the testing requirements outlined in the standards.

Testing fees are separate from the product certification fee. Product certification is handled by IAPMO R&T and IAPMO UES. IAPMO IBT is a third-party independent testing laboratory which is a separate entity from IAPMO Research and Testing (R&T) and IAPMO UES.

The number of product samples is dependent on the applicable standard(s). Some standards require three (3) samples to be tested whereas other standards require six (6) or more samples.

Yes, the products can be tested at the manufacturer's facility with the presence of one of our staff to witness the test. However, all appropriate equipment must be calibrated, and documentation must be provided. Approval must first be obtained from the certification agency. 

Yes, a manufacturer may witness the test at the IAPMO IBT laboratory facility with a pre-arranged appointment.

There are many sources of organizations who provide standards. One source is from IAPMO's Standards Department.

  1. Contact IAPMO IBT and provide product information.
  2. IAPMO IBT will provide a quote (including standard/specification, testing cost, time to complete and number of samples).
  3. The client provides a purchase order, samples and documentation.
  4. IAPMO IBT proceeds with testing and provides test reports.

The manufacturer can apply to the IAPMO Standards department to create an IAPMO Guide Criteria to cover those specific products. If needed, IAPMO IBT provides a service to assist the manufacturer in preparing a proposed specification.

Yes, IAPMO IBT conducts other tests such as:

  • Comparison test against other products Manufacturer quality assurance test
  • Testing for research purposes
  • Tests to fulfill the manufacturer's needs 

Some equipment, such as standard test equipment, can be purchased from companies specified in the standards. Other equipment is created specifically for testing building products. IAPMO IBT's machine shop builds this equipment.

  • Liaison between manufacturers and listing/certification agencies
  • Design analysis
  • Test protocol development
  • Creation of quality manuals
